Why We Started Patriots Law Group…

After nearly two years of planning, the doors to Patriots Law Group have finally opened.

Patriots Law Group is a full-service firm dedicated to serving the legal needs of service members and their families.  It was established by former military lawyers who, through their own service, recognized that circumstances of military life created unique legal challenges for military men and women but that few resources existed to meet those challenges.  It's a fact that those who serve often do so in places far removed from home and community. And though it is never anticipated, what if a legal issue were to arise? What if it happened while a member was stationed on the opposite coast? Or serving on the opposite side of the world? Would Google be the trusted source to finding a good attorney? The lawyers at Patriots Law Group hope not.

Mike and Pat founded Patriots Law Group to ensure that service members always have access to the legal help that they need, whether dealing with a military or civilian matter. As former JAGs, they understand the military justice system.

They spent years prosecuting and defending cases in military boards and courts-martial cases such as sexual assault and benefits fraud, the outcomes of which often determined a member's future in the military. Mike and Pat learned from this experience, not only the workings of the military justice system, but just how much is at stake for servicemembers who face legal issues. They founded PLG to serve these members.

While dedicated to serving members in military cases, the lawyers at PLG are equally committed to helping military men and women in civilian matters.  Military courts are not the ones to decide issues of child custody, divorce, real estate, or contracts. Nor are these issues likely to threaten military careers. But they certainly affect military members, and service obligations- i.e. deployments, relocations- can undoubtedly complicate such legal matters. Mike and Pat learned this when they served together in Japan. They saw how difficult it could be to resolve a real estate dispute when a property is located an ocean away, and how hard it is to fight a custody case when stationed in a new and unfamiliar place. While Mike and Pat are only two attorneys, they hope to create a network of experienced lawyers who will be able to meet the legal needs of service members and their families no matter where they serve. They want PLG to become a resource that military men and women recognize and trust.

With an initial location just steps away from Andrews Air Force Base in Suitland, MD, PLG hopes to open offices near military installations across the country and eventually across the globe. Service members and their families serve everywhere. Patriots Law Group wants to be sure that they do too so that military men and women always have the legal support that they need.
