Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day! Resources for Military Spouses

Posted by Michael E. Lyons | May 10, 2019 | 0 Comments

Military Spouse Appreciation Day, held every year on the Friday before Mother's Day, is a day to honor the contributions and sacrifices made by military spouses. Recognized on May 10th this year, the day honors the silent heroes who act as the backbone of military families while servicemembers are deployed. At Patriots Law Group, we know that active duty servicemembers sacrifice memories, milestones, and holidays to protect their countries, and want to honor the family members and spouses who make the same sacrifices at home.

In honor of Military Spouse Appreciation Day, we've collected resources meant to support military spouses and their families.

Military Spouse JD Network (www.msjdn.org)

The Military Spouse JD Network (MSJDN) is an organization that advocates for military spouses pursuing legal careers that aren't always compatible with a military lifestyle. Formed in 2011 by two military spouses who were frustrated with the legal field's treatment of military families, MSJDN works to close the gap between military spouses and licensing accommodations, and fights for bar membership without the need for extra exams and testing. The organization also acts as a networking hub for military spouses with JDs.

Blue Star Families (www.bluestarfam.org)

Founded in 2009, Blue Star Families is an organization designed to empower and support military families around the nation. Serving more than 1.5 million military family members, 150,000 network members, and chapters all over the world, Blue Star Families offers research, support, and networking for military families. Their mission is to overcome the isolation and alienation that often accompany military families' frequent moves, improve the support that military spouses receive from the government, and fight economic insecurity by fostering spouses' career development. They also offer unique family programming for kids and parents of all ages, including events, networking opportunities, and peer support for the whole family.

Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse Professional Network (www.hiringourheroes.org)

Hiring Our Heroes, otherwise known as the Military Spouse Professional Network or MSPN, is a global military community focused on career development and networking opportunities for military spouses. The organization focuses on building referral networks for military families that often have to move, using its 55 locations around the U.S. and global military installations to connect military spouses with established networks that can offer career support, guidance, and referrals from anywhere in the world. MSPN also offers career development resources, like online courses, mentorship programs, and access to local business leaders. Their online community is an excellent resource for military spouses looking to form networking connections with other military family members in similar career fields.

At Patriots Law Group, we know how difficult it can be to start over with a new home, neighborhood, and career every few years, depending on your or your family member's deployment. Our mission is to connect military servicemembers and their families with the best possible legal advice and consultation, so that you know your family's interests will be protected, no matter where your next deployment takes you.

On Military Spouse Appreciation Day, we'd like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the spouses and family members who support active duty servicemembers with their sacrifices and hard work at home. With your support, military families like yours and ours can find success, happiness, and stability in every corner of the world.
